List of all Stamps and Philatelic Material
As postage stamps were not issued until 1840, there were no contemporary stamps issued during the War of 1812. However, various commemorative issues were issued at later dates.
United States
The War of 1812 is the subject of three United States stamps. The two 2¢ values of the Army and Navy series of 1936–1937 depicts army and navy heroes of the early 19th century, all four of whom served in the War of 1812. A stamp issued in 1965 commemorates the Battle of New Orleans and 150 years of peace. Other stamps related to the War of 1812 include figures who were or would become president (James Madison, James Monroe, Andrew Jackson, William Henry Harrison, etc.), Francis Scott Key and the Fort McHenry flag, the U.S.S. Constitution, the house that Decatur built after the war, and a few others.
The following U.S. stamps can be viewed on War of 1812 Bicentennial:
- U.S. Army and Navy Issue: Decatur and Macdonough, 1936–1937
- U.S. Army and Navy Issue: Jackson and Scott, 1936–1937
- Battle of New Orleans, 1965
- U.S. Frigate Constitution, 1947
- Francis Scott Key, 1948
- Indiana Territory Sesquicentennial (William Henry Harrison), 1950
- Andrew Jackson, 1962
Canada
Six Canadian stamps are related to the War of 1812, including two stamps of Brock and Tecumseh issued on June 15, 2012, a joint issue with Guernsey. I have not reproduced these here due to copyright restrictions. These stamps are:
- Sir Isaac Brock, 1969 (page at Library and Archives Canada) (other images of Isaac Brock)
- Charles Michel de Salaberry, 1979 (page at Library and Archives Canada) (another image of Charles de Salaberry)
- Hamilton/Scourge (1813, Lake Ontario), 1987 (page at Library and Archives Canada)
- Laura Secord, 1992 (page at Library and Archives Canada) (other images of Laura Secord)
- Sir Isaac Brock, 2012 (page at Canada Post)
- Tecumseh, 2012 (page at Canada Post)
Guernsey
The United Kingdom has not, to my knowledge, issued stamps commemorating the war; however, Guernsey, the home of Isaac Brock, has issued four stamps in 1969 and two stamps in 1996 commemorating Brock. One of the two 1996 stamps depicts Brock's meeting with Tecumseh, which until 2012 was the only stamp commemorating Tecumseh. It also issued two stamps on June 15, 2012 (a joint issue with Canada) commemorating Brock and Tecumseh.
