Around 200 years ago, during the War of 1812, North American newspapers had not yet become the "poor man's University" that they would later become (few newspapers in the Great Lakes-St. Lawrence region had even been published for more than a decade then); yet, they are still a valuable source of copies of primary documents and of detailed descriptions and commentary about the War of 1812. Useful information can sometimes be found in later newspapers as well.
